10K @ 10K

Today Heidi and I ran the Skyline Drive 10K. This race took place up Fairview Canyon just 2 miles below the summit. The route ran up to the summit then down the other side.
After work on Friday Heidi, Ben, and I took off for Fairview canyon. Heidi drove her motor home and Ben and I took the 4runner along with the 4 wheelers. Once we got to the canyon and found a place to camp we cooked some spaghetti for dinner, and then for dessert we had yummy smores, by the way a reeses peanut butter cup in place of the Hersey's chocolate is much better!! and also this is a great pre race food!! ;)
The race started at 9. Heidi and I drove to the start, where we only waited about 15 minutes until the race began. The race started about 2 miles below the summit, so the first couple of miles were not easy. We raced up to the highest point then finished the last 4 miles down hill. Breathing was more challenging because of the high altitude, but it was worth it with the beautiful scenery. I took my camera on the run so I was able to get some of the pictures of where we ran. We did great, and had a blast.
This is one that I will definitely run every year. Once we made it to the end we stuck around for a little bit, and we were glad because they had a raffle and Heidi won a duffle bag! it was fun.
After the race we went back to our camp where Ben had stayed along with the dogs (Maggie and Moki) We ate lunch, then Heidi headed home. Ben and I stayed and went on a four-wheeler ride. We all had a lot of fun and I'm so glad that I was able to be a part of it. And thanks to Ben and Heidi for being there!
Next race Hobble Creek 1/2 Marathon!
