PROVO RIVERWOODS 10 MILER

Today I ran the Provo Riverwoods 10 mile Trail Run. This run has been on my list of races to run but it wasn't until a few days ago that I had decided to run it it. My Wasatch Back Relay is next weekend so I was just a little nervous running this the weekend before, but I realized that I needed it for a training run to help prepare a little more for next week.
Packet pick-up was at Boarders Book store at the Riverwoods mall. I got there around 6:30, picked up my number and got on the bus. At the top I waited for about 40 minutes until we started. They supplied us with plastic bags to put our belongings in at the top. After I took off my sweater, only a few minutes before we actually started running, it started to rain. I was a little worried about this because I didn't want to get to cold or be cold from the rain for most of the run, but luckily it only sprinkled for about 2 1/2 miles and then it turned in to a perfect day to run. It was overcast and a great temperature. We started up past South Fork Park, up Provo Canyon, the mountains up that canyon are beautiful and I enjoyed running there.

My plan was to keep my run slower and controlled today, I didn't want to injury myself more or have my ankle, shins and calves act up again like two weeks ago. I felt great, my legs never started hurting (well at least not more than the usual running pain :) ) I never felt the sharp pain in my ankle and I was able to do better than I planned. My average mile was around 8:40 which brought me in at 1hr and 27 min. Which breaks my personal record on this same race by 7 minutes....yeah!! The last two miles were a little rough, I started to have a side ache and my feet were getting sore, but I pushed through it and was able to finish strong. My new shoes are great and I know that they have help with the pain that was in my calves and shins.

Well this race can now be checked off!

Stay tuned for my next post, which will be the Wasatch Back Relay. If your not sure what this is...I am a part of a team of runners, 12 total. We will run a whopping 177 miles. We start in Logan, end in Heber, and we will each run 3 legs. Stay tuned!
