PROVO 1/2 MARATHON

Well, all I can say is....."ouch!" This was a tough one, but I finished. My goal was to come in at 2 hours. My time was 2hrs 1min. (according to my watch-I'll update if different once I get the chip time) My dad drove me down to the start line and took a few pictures and video of me before the run. After the large cannon went off to start the race, I set the timer on my watch and was off. (video below) As I started the race I did what we call a "Kyle" and started the race in a sprint! not such a good idea. My first mile was under an 8 min pace which is good but fast for the first one. After that I thought, "I'd better slow down if I wanted to finish." I slowed down and stayed between a 9-9:30 min mile for the rest. My ankle started hurting around mile 3, I ran through the pain and after a while didn't notice it any more, probably because everything else was in pain!! ;) It was cold and snowing and there was head wind until about mile 10, but whose complaining, it was all part of the running experience, which I love. I carried with me energy jelly beans and gu which I started to take around mile 6. There were times when all I wanted to do was stop, but I didn't, I kept going and am very glad I did. I saw my dad around mile 5, (video below) which was nice to see someone I knew supporting me and cheering me on. After that, my Dad drove home, picked up my Mom and I saw them both again cheering me on at mile 10.5, and of course at the end with Annie and Kyle. I want to let them all know I love them and I am very grateful that they are always there supporting me during the races that I run. Even though this was very hard it did not give me any ideas or plans to stop, only to try to be better. My plan now, is that I need to run harder and lose a little more weight in order to make it easier to qualify for Boston. My next run will be the Provo 10 mile on Memorial Day.

  1. Pulling a "Kyle" is not a good way to start a race. Many a times I have ruined myself by pulling a "Kyle." Well done! Can't wait for the 10-miler...I am in!

  2. I am sooo proud of you and your ambition. I am sad I didn't do it with you, is the 10 mile one full yet? I think that sounds like a lot of fun. I would not be able to keep up with you, but it would be fun to at least start together. I don't think you need to lose weight, but that is just my opinion, you are a great runner and you accomplish soooo much.
